Qualifications and expectations:
- Must be a recent graduate (graduated on or after April 1, 2024) from an Alberta-based post-secondary program with relevance to the field of business.
- Must be an Alberta resident and eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be available to work full-time hours for a period of 1 year from the beginning of work placement to the end.
- Expected to actively engage in the learning process and show flexibility in adapting to reasonable expectations from paired industry partners.
- Expected to adhere to professional behaviour and ethics, including the conduct policy of the paired company.
- Expected to provide post-work placement feedback to Genome Alberta to improve this program.
How to apply:
- Ensure you are qualified to participate:
- Must be a recent graduate (graduated on or after April 1, 2024) from an Alberta-based post-secondary program relevant to business or bioinformatics.
- Must be an Alberta resident and eligible to work in Canada.

What you will do:
- Apply computational and analytical skills to real-world industry challenges, supporting use of AI approaches where relevant

Qualifications and expectations:
- Must be a recent graduate (graduated at or after April 1, 2024) OR a current student from an Alberta-based post-secondary program with relevance to the field of bioinformatics, computational biology or data science & AI that expects to graduate within the next 6 months.
- Must be an Alberta resident, eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be available to work full-time hours for a period of 12 months from the beginning of work placement to end.
- Expected to actively engage in the learning process and show flexibility in adapting to reasonable expectations from the paired company.
- Expected to adhere to professional behaviour and ethics including the conduct policy of the paired company.
- Expected to provide feedback to Genome Alberta & BioNet for the purposes of promoting and improving talent development programs.

- Matching process
- Your application will be reviewed during set intake periods by participating companies.
- The current intake for Bioinformatics placements is August 3 – September 28, 2026.
- Qualified candidates are placed in a candidate pool for up to 6 months while Genome Alberta works with industry partners to identify placement opportunities.
- Next steps
- Candidates may be contacted for interviews as opportunities arise.
- Candidates remain in the pool for up to 6 months or until they secure employment.
Placements:
- Intake #6: August 3 – September 28, 2026 (closes at 5:00 PM MST).
- Eligible candidates may submit an application for entry into upcoming intake periods.

- Set project goals at the beginning of the placement and evaluate progress with Genome Alberta through regular surveys.
- Provide feedback to Genome Alberta for the purposes of promoting and improving talent development programs.
Qualifications and expectations:
- Have offices, or be based, in Alberta.
- Work in the space of health, energy, environment, or agriculture and agri-food with a genomics/omics component.
- Be able to support a new position that helps the company grow or diversify through business development or bioinformatics activities centred around its genomics/omics technologies or services.

- Review the requirements to become a host.
- Express your interest in the Business Development Work Placement program by emailing Mitthua Sarkar-Banks, Director People & Culture at msarkar-banks@genomealberta.ca.
- Once participation is confirmed. companies will create and provide a job description for potential applicants to review. Placements will be posted at genomealberta.ca.
Requirements to become a host
- Create meaningful work placements that promote skill and career growth
- Mentor and supervise participants.
- Set project goals at the beginning of the placement and evaluate progress with Genome Alberta through regular surveys.
- Provide feedback to Genome Alberta for the purposes of promoting and improving talent development programs.
Qualifications and expectations:
- Have offices, or be based, in Alberta.
- Cost share the internship at 1:1.
- Max $40K matching for placement.
- Work in health, energy, environment, or agriculture and agri-food sectors with a genomics/omics component or a desire to enter the fields of genomics/omics to expand operations.
- Be able to support a new position that helps the company grow or diversify through business development activities centred around its genomics/omics technologies or services.
