The global market for soybean seed sales is estimated at $3.0 – $4.5 billion. Arcadia Biosciences estimates that superior soybean varieties carrying the enhanced seed oil trait could capture up to 25% of this market. Revenues would be obtained through licensing the trait or the resulting varieties to one or more partners with potential for multiple licensing opportunities each with specific geographical exclusivity. This project team will work with Arcadia, an agricultural biotechnology company, to develop innovative approaches that provide enhanced plant productivity, nutritional benefits, and environmental sustainability. This project is aimed at the development of a superior trait resulting in substantially increased seed oil content in soybean through the application of genomics-based tools to engineer carbon flow and lipid biosynthetic and metabolic pathways.
