ALBERTA’S ROLE Lead

The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) is Canada’s national metabolomics** laboratory, mandated to provide Canadian companies, scientists and trainees with access to comprehensive, cutting-edge metabolomic services and technologies. Originally launched in 2011 as a Genome Canada Science and Technology Innovation Centre, TMIC has received multiple renewed mandates to continue to grow and advance metabolomics as a key technology and driver of the Canadian innovation ecosystem. TMIC operates as is a distributed core facility that consists of several nodes located across Canadian universities.  TMIC’s key strengths lie in: 1) its ability to perform quantitative metabolomics on a wide range of matrices (biofluids, tissues, plants, microbes, water, air, soil), 2) its world-class informatics capabilities and database tools, 3) its capacity to innovate and perform translational technology development, and 4) its ability to perform metabolomic measurements and analyses for a wide range of health, agriculture, environment, wildlife, fishery and forestry applications.

** Metabolomics is a field of “omics” specializing in the near global analysis of small molecule metabolites found in biological samples. Its applications include disease diagnostics, agriculture and livestock, food and nutrition, environmental and pharmaceutical research and development.
