The schools are registered, the medals and plaques have been ordered, and the students are busy with their beakers or whatever other science equipment they need. Yes, it is science fair season in Alberta again!
An additional reason for Albertans to be excited this science fair season is that the Canada-Wide will be held in Edmonton. Yes! The Canada-Wide finalists arrive in Edmonton for May 9. Visitors are welcome May 13 – 15 to the Edmonton Convention Centre.
If you follow my blog posts, you will know that I give this advice every year. It is an extremely rewarding experience interacting with these young scientists as they showcase their scientific work. A science fair represents the public display of STEAM project-based learning.
Here are my recommendations on how you can participate:
Find Your Fair
Parents of school-aged children: get your children involved by taking them to see a regional fair or by encouraging them to participate in the process.
Interested adults: take the time to volunteer as a judge or on a committee which puts on the fair.
Teachers: inspire your students to pursue science fair projects. These projects build skills and confidence in cross-curricular areas including language arts, oral presenting, artwork, mathematics and science.
You can find your local fair date and location listed below. This is your opportunity to experience the excitement of your local science fair.
