On June 18th Genome Alberta was one of the sponsors of the mini-symposium
Genomics and Personalized Medicine - Health Policy and Barriers to Adoption held at the University of Alberta.
There were 3 speakers at the event and freelance broadcaster Don Hill cornered them all for an interview before they left the event. We posted the
interview with Wylie Burke earlier in the summer, and next up we have Chris McCabe, Professor and Capital Health Research Chair in Emergency Medicine Research and one of the lead researchers on our
PACEOMICS project.
In his presentation Chris looked at the new health care economy factors that have come into play because of the promise arising from genomics technology. Personalized medicine is one of the outcomes of that technology and it doesn't always mesh with health care budgets and policy. Chris believes that implementing new technologies and tests means choosing wisely and that became the theme for his presentation.
Take a listen to how he summed it up with Don Hill.
