Daniel Coderre appointed as the new President and CEO of Genome Quebec

Image of Daniel CoderreThe Génome Québec Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Coderre as the organization’s new President and CEO.
Recognized for his extensive knowledge of the issues facing science and technology and for his reputation as an outstanding leader, Mr. Coderre will be bringing to Génome Québec his wealth of experience acquired in Québec, in Canada and around the world. Génome Québec is a non-profit organization that promotes genomics and serves as a driving force of economic growth in Québec. Its goal is to foster the development and integration of the cross-disciplinary field of genomics and support researchers in their quest for excellence and competitiveness.
A certified corporate director (ASC - Administrateur de sociétés certifié) with a proven track record in public administration, Mr. Coderre has all the necessary attributes to spearhead Génome Québec. The mandate he has been given includes consolidating the strategic position of genomics in its various sectors of interest: health, agrifood, forestry and sustainable development.
Mr. Coderre served as Rector of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) since 2009, where he acquired solid expertise in public administration and built a wide network of partners. He holds a doctorate in biology from the Université de Sherbrooke. He began his career in 1982 as a biology professor at UQAM, where he supervised 85 masters and doctoral students and published nearly 100 scientific publications. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Science and Vice-Rector of Research before being appointed Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Research from 2004 to 2009 and in 2009, as its Interim President. He has held positions on close to twenty committees, boards of directors, scientific, government and international committees and various commissions on science, technology and innovation.
“Given his vision and leadership skills, Mr. Coderre is well prepared to accompany Génome Québec in meeting the challenges of diversifying its sources of funding and positioning research and innovation – challenges facing all similar organizations,” explained Chair of the Board Martin Godbout. “As our representative, he will use his strong communication skills to rally partners and users to the potential of genomics technology as a tangible solution to today’s economic and social issues.”
“This appointment as President and CEO comes at a pivotal moment for Génome Québec and for the advancement of this disruptive technology,” Daniel Coderre said. “I am coming on board in the midst of a genomics revolution, at a time when a major shift is taking place in the practice of medicine and in our ability to develop innovative solutions facing strategic sectors of the Québec economy. I am delighted to have this chance to work with our partners as we embark on this shift that will put genomics to work for citizens and society.”
