Innovation in Agricultural Genomics (IAG)

Overview

Genome Alberta partnered with the producer-led Results Driven Agriculture Research (RDAR) to identify novel projects capable of delivering genomics (including other -omics and bioinformatics) applications that will benefit producers and/or the agricultural industry. The opportunity, called Innovation in Agricultural Genomics, aimed to advance Alberta’s agriculture and agri-food sectors through genomics innovations.

Project Value: $50,000 – $750,000
Total Funding Available: $4,500,000

Objectives

Successful projects were required to directly benefit Alberta’s agricultural industry (e.g., livestock, crops, food safety), addressing priority areas including (but not limited to): enhanced productivity, profitability & competitiveness; sustainable and responsible agricultural production; and address market demands (e.g., food safety & quality, value-added product development).

Project Eligibility

Applicants were required to demonstrate how their proposal had significant potential to achieve concrete deliverables by the end of the funding period.

Funding Available and Term

Up to $750K per year per project

  • 1:1 co-funding requirement from eligible sources (e.g., anything other than existing funds from the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) program
