An Integrated And Distributed Bioinformatics Platform For Genome Canada

A Platform provides vital services and technologies
in support of research projects to better enable
them to reach their scientific milestones.

This Platform is led by Dr. Christoph W. Sensen of the University of Calgary in collaboration with Dr. Mark Wilkinson of the University of British Columbia, Dr. David Wishart of the University of Alberta, and Dr. Brian Fristensky of the University of Manitoba.

After a very successful three years of research and service provision, we will now provide Platform services to the Genome Canada Applied Genomics and Proteomics Research in Human Health Competition, Genome Canada Project Competition III projects, as well as other research initiatives around the world.

In addition to these aggressive plans, we will continue to focus on the four major aspects of the initial Platform design:

  • Large Scale Genome Analysis and Hardware Provision (Dr. Sensen)
Provision of access to dedicated computational infrastructure
  • BioMOBY/Web Services (Dr. Wilkinson)
Research projects focusing on tool development for Genome Canada projects
  • Help Desk/Tools for Proteomics (Dr. Wishart) Custom programming for Genome Canada projects
  • Scientific Training (Dr. Fristensky)
    Training of bioinformatics "power users".

The Platform plans to go forward with a highly skilled and world recognized Platform team with a wide distribution of Platform services and research across Canada and will involve increased work in commercializing Platform products, continued focus on high quality research through our Platform projects, and dedication to provision of best-in-the-field services to projects, platforms, and researchers of Genome Canada and beyond.
