Canadian science fair dates and locations have been revealed as all the regional science fairs are now affiliated with Youth Science Canada for the 2019 science fair season. Many students have been actively working on projects since September and are getting ready for their school and regional fairs. Volunteers at regional organizations are processing student registrations, meeting with sponsors, and contacting potential judges.
For more than ten years Genome Alberta has sponsored awards and provided financial support for regional science fairs in Alberta. Each year we recognize the achievements of young student scientists. The Genome Alberta awards are presented to students with outstanding projects in the life sciences, and especially in genetics and genomics.
Here is how you can get involved
It is an extremely rewarding experience interacting with these young scientists as they showcase their scientific work. A science fair represents the public display of STEAM project-based learning.
Here are our recommendations on how you can participate:
Find Your Fair
- Parents of school-aged children: get your children involved by taking them to see a regional fair or by encouraging them to participate in the process.
- Interested adults: take the time to volunteer as a judge or on a committee which puts on the fair.
- Teachers: inspire your students to pursue science fair projects. These projects build skills and confidence in cross-curricular areas including language arts, oral presenting, artwork, mathematics and science.
