I was in the Canadian Rockies this past week and observed that the larch trees are in their prime. You probably only have a week or so left to get to see them in 2016. For me and many other Albertans it is an annual pilgrimage to observe these marvels of nature. The alpine larch, Larix lyallii, is one of the only deciduous conifers. It is a fascinating adaptation to the tough conditions of growing at altitude in a place with long and cold winters.
