The Applied Livestock Genomics Program for 2014 (ALGP2)

Genome Alberta and the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency are partnering again to support genomic sciences in Alberta’s livestock and meat industry. In 2010 the organizations launched an ‘Applied Livestock Genomics Program (ALGP)’ that funded 9 projects, which are now delivering exciting results demonstrating the tremendous potential of genomics to make positive impacts in our multi-billion dollar livestock industry.
Now we're working on a new round of funding to further work in livestock genomics.

The new program, ALGP2, has $3 million available for genomics research in the areas of sustainability and reducing carbon footprint, livestock health, production relating to climate change, food safety and nutrition, and translational challenges in technology uptake.
There are two types of projects to be funded: ‘Rapid Opportunity Projects’ (ROPs) and ‘Strategic Opportunity Projects’ (SOPs). ROPs are focused on short term projects with immediate benefits to the sector while SOPs are longer term projects that will address significant research questions and industry issues.

ALPG2 investments will ultimately develop projects providing significant benefit to the Canadian livestock industry, and the Canadian economy, through genomics-based innovations.

The Program Guidelines and the Letter of Intent forms are available for download now.
